How to Cope When a Travel Injury Interrupts Your Plans

By

What do you do when your delightful location-independent arrangements are interrupted by illness or a travel injury? I found out the hard way on my recent Panama trip. In early February, I spent a delightful week traveling around Chiriqui Province in Panama with Jackie Lange and her Panama Relocation Tours bus. I was seeing what I wanted to see, in the company of interesting and enthusiastic people. But my plans for my time in Panama were suddenly, seriously derailed. I left the …

How I Survived the 2019 Polar Vortex

By

While friends and family were in the grip of record-breaking winter cold during the 2019 polar votex, I was basking in the sun and sea breezes on Panama's Azuero peninsula. I know, "cold" is relative, and in Central Florida it doesn't get that cold. But, after 30+ years living in tropical and sub-tropical climates, it felt darned cold to me. As the winter of 2017-2018 drew to a close, my husband and I had several conversations along the lines of, "let's not freeze next winter." Fortunately, because my work is totally …

How to Start a New Freelance Business in 5 Easy Steps

By

How do you start a freelance business? I've spent a good part of my life as a freelancer of one sort or another. I was a freelance writer for several newspapers and magazines. Then I ran a business for a while where I combined writing with design, creating newsletters, brochures, and such-like. This was back in the pre-internet days. When the internet came along, I added web design to my portfolio. When the economy melted down in 2009, I was catapulted back into freelance writing - …
